You should read the novel. It will help you understand the story and enjoy it more :)
Or watch the Anime. The timeline is a little different in it and it will help you understand, exspecally scince you already know a bit through the manga...
lol it took awhile for me to piece things together, but if you watch the donghua or read the novel some of the things come together.
I suggest watching the donghua first for names but Manhwa/novel is actually the one that are recs for peeps who watched the donghua first. I highly recommended that you read the novel first if you found the manhwa confusing
