Don't look it from a normal human perspective. Cole is a very insecure human being. He really couldn't stand the idea of a random person having his kid.
It is a relationship. You're SUPPOSED to talk about it with someone. Even if you see 0 problems in it, your partner might just be so bothered. And like a caring partner you are, you respect their feelings and discuss until you find an end where you're both happy.
