No, Medea doesn't want the power in the first place. She is happy just to be with her brother's side but as what she observed her brother is struggling so she help him in every way she can. Then she saw that her father is discontented about her brother's doing even tho she knows her brother did everything. The day her brother leave there house is the day Medea decided to be the head and have the power to revenge her father.

Also i think Medea is not a bad person but I definitely don't think she was happy just being by her brother's side
She couldn't even relate to him, Medea is different from him and that's OK. She's not selfless and selfsacrificing she is practical
Also she stopped hanging out with him for a few years once they grew up so I don't think her goal was to be by her brother's side
She wanted power to take down her father and the prince. If ever she became the Empress she have much more power to fight against the prince. She already took down her father so the next target is the prince.
