If they let it fade away, it's like they're pretending their feelings don't exist and are denying it. I want them to at least talk it out so that he will at least know if he'll have a firm rejection or not.
Personally, if I liked someone as much as he liked his friend, I would much rather like to be rejected right away so that I can move on, if I didn't then I would hang on to that last bit of hope and have unrequited feelings for a long time, which will end up hurting me more.

It makes sense, but a lot of people would rather keep quiet than face rejection. Rejection hurts. Plus a confession can change a relationship forever. A lot of people don't want to risk that.
True, I guess if you're already friends with the person you like and you feel like they'll reject you it's better to keep quiet~
But since it's a manga, I would rather have SOME form of discussion about it, rather than just pretending their feelings don't exist (not necessarily a confession tho)
