Why a fake divorce and not a real one?

The father thought it was a fake divorce, they divorce legally but in actual fact they are still together.
I can’t really remember why, but it might have been at the point where both his real children are in jail and need to pay money for some reason or another (maybe a fine). The dad was convinced to transfer his money and property to the mother so he doesn’t have to pay, then they stole it.
But this is rusty I read it like a year ago and can’t remember the finicky detail
That fuck had this coming to him for a long time, and it’s about to become a whole lot worse for him!!!

First this fall paralyses him from the neck down
Second, his daughter and son do jack shit for him
Third, our mc and her mother pretend to be loyal and doting on him, they manipulate him into putting all of his houses property and wealth under the mothers name. And then they get a “fake” divorce and leave him penniless
Finally I’m pretty sure he died when he heard his son gets poisoned by his daughter.
However there is one thing I can compliment this rat of a father for, he never stopped loving his daughter, which is a big accomplishment since she was the one who pushed him.
