I think she thinks the boy didn’t start with the father yet so she probably thinks “ah I’ve saved him from being evil.” As for the husband, love is blind, so I think the fear she had for him in the beginning got replaced. Her mind set is changed into thinking they aren’t doing evil things anymore because they aren’t doing it in front of her.

I agree. I would further like to add that they aren't necessarily evil. It's just that they have to be very strict with themselves and others to survive in that world. From my understanding, house chaeild serves as the right hand of the royal family and has to take care of the dirty work for them. They are also constantly being plotted against by corrupt nobles. There have been mentions of many assassination attemps as well so they have to be impenetrable or near invincible to survive and the nobles resent them even more for it.
I agree 100%! We have only seen them kill a spy, but he was a spy so I understand why they killed him. Can’t let him go and tell the world their secrets so that they can kill them. People are calling them evil because of that without realizing what would happen if they let him live. A spy was sent there to get info on them, some type of weakness to kill them. Other than that, what else have they done? Yeah Ain did do something bad but he was provoked. He was just chilling and decided to play so that they never bug him again and then they pushed him. The second time the kid provoked him by saying that he would be forgotten when a sibling comes cause he knows that would get Ain mad. We got to admit we would like to see someone we don’t like stepping on leggos. Yeah we don’t want death but some type of karma. They are called the villains but the only one I have seen act like a villain is the OG stepmother. The dad is just doing his job, doing the dirty work for the king and kill off spy’s that can hurt him and his family, vs. the stepmother that tortured Ain just because. She did it for fun, to get a laugh out of it, she even tortured him in front of other nobles like it was some type of show idk but that is evil to me.
I still don't understand how she can just ignore the fact that these people are evil EVIL!! Like yeah, they have changed, but how can you trust it when yu have read the novel bruuuuuuh
