bc they apply it too personally to themselves which is not the purpose of fiction. fiction is supposed to give you different perspective but don't apply it to yourself bc it will make you hate it.
there's a reason why 'fiction' even exists and that is to create a wide range or personalities and stories you can't always get in non-fiction.
please, applying a story to you personally, will create a barrier with reality and it's not good sometimes.
here's your daily reminder that this is just fiction!!
i like cain but tbh he doesn't really have something that attracts readers except that he's kind and bubbly (which typically falls back to second leads) and with yahwi... we all have that classic character who acts all macho and mysterious (add the red flags here and there) bc of their past, right? that's yahwi.
i think the author is trying to lure us into what a toxic person can do to change for the person they likes and how threatening a kind and bubbly second lead can be.
i am team yahwi, that's not surprising anymore, i tend to support lead characters for no apparent reason and honestly, from a reader's pov, cain doesn't have much to offer and it's kinda sad bc cain is such a refreshing character :((
but still, whatever happens in this story, we all need to accept that this is just FICTION
