Trigger is very much gay. Chloe is the first and only person he's told, that's why when he offered to marry her, he said he would never marry a woman and he wouldn't have to worry about having kids.
I didn't read the novel, so I don't know, but I doubt he would end up liking her like that. He probably likes her as a close friend. Being gay at that time would be terrible, and getting married as a slave or ex-slave would be very hard, I think the marriage is more of an opportunity thing.
Trigger doesn't have to worry over his family beating his back for not getting married already, forcing him to probably come out and get kicked out of his house for it. Chloe doesn't have to worry over her not getting married because she used to be a slave, and she can study freely and do her own shit because she would be married woman. So in other words, they'd both have the freedom they want, just a bit different.

Yeah, Trigger is gay but since it isn't really accepted and his parents are pressuring him to marry... He asks Chloe to marry him since she is the only one who knows his secret.... And I guess Chloe will be free if she marries him but Trigger doesn't like her romantically. It's more like killing two birds with one stone.... Trigger will be free from his parents expectations and pressure and Chloe will have more freedom to study herbs. But these are only my point of view
Can someone tell me if I remember wrong? Also, if someone read the novel, can you tell me if Trigger actually likes Chloe?
