Well she is the wife of the former emperor, but I don’t think she’s the current emperor real mom. But his step mom and that the former emperor married a much younger wife that was closer to his sons age. I think there might have been a chapter to explain it. But yeah I thought it was odd too because she doesn’t look old.

Chapter 71 it shows Medea getting ready to marry the former emperor because her country was poor and she was a princess and so he married her and took over her country. But it shows the Duchess attending the wedding and she is the same age as her. A young adult, which means the current emperor would be the same age too.
