I do see where you’re going with the incest genetics with the disease she’ll get later in life but personally I think you’re reading too much into the brother loving her romantically but the nobleman with blond hair and “you’re too slow to catch on” is a bit weird but he hasn’t show any romantic feels towards her if we were to go into that theory more I would say it’s probably someone else in their family but I don’t think we’ll go down road
I read it all in one go and honestly I have a gut feeling that the brother has different feelings for her. It was mentioned that their mother's family practiced incest, so when her half brother wanted to marry her she fled and married Ella's father. Not to mention, the marquis is very overprotective and a bit possessive of her and is also hostile towards her husband which can mean jealousy. Honestly, I didn't feel this way before but after he asked her if she wanted a blonde noble then when she didn't catch on it, he said he's glad she's slow, it suddenly hit me that maybe he covets Ella. The incest actually also explains Ella and her sister's disease, I have a feeling it's a cause of it, their mother's parents are most likely inbred as well, and diseases that are caused by inbreeding are passed down to their children. If that's the case then I'm sorry to say it but it's highly possible that she can't escape death since it's in their genetics... I remember reading in some history book about a royalty family who practiced inbreeding, the queen realized she had a disease because of inbreeding, she had several children and she sent them to different countries to marry and stopped with the incest but all of them died early and even her grandchildren who weren't inbred died early as well. So yeah... Incest sucks.
