Why are corsets a symbol of patriarchal oppression?
Weren't they the bras of before and after 16th century?
Did the author actually did her research about coursetry?

Sorry babe but the way historians portrayed it means most ppl will always look badly on corsets. Even though shape wear is the same thing

The propaganda is still really widespread, and it's smth ppl believe without thinking they need to check it, so we end up with this kind of thing.

I also know about the myth about corsets, but I just want to enjoy a good story so I don’t really care anymore. Though, it’s nice to spread the truth so go queen/king.

Yes you're right, corsets are literally bras. Not only that, but they provide wayyy better back and bust support for women than our modern bras. The author did not do her research.

(Bra’s suck though) I love the look of corsets, they look beautiful. But if look at it like you look at bras, you might see why. They are uncomfortable and limit your activity, and people heavily criticise women if they don’t wear one. Men, way back when, would only marry a women if she was set to the standard of societal beauty, hence- corsets.

Corsets shouldn’t be hated at all, no way- they are lovely. But the idea that all women (in that time) should wear one to be proper— is the patriarchal oppression.

    <<at least in this comic>>

I also watched a video saying that it was a woman who made the corset and that the only reason it started to go out of style was because of a man who might have been jealous of the success she was getting therfore creating the bra. Not sure if that's correct though, do fact check me if so.
