I thought they did get back together
The narration spoke about how he would find a new love. And while his ex did pop up again and spoke about how he was going to Sapparo and resigning and also about how if he was more in love with him he would take him home with him...and the MC retorted about he couldn't be more in love with him...
It still had an ending narration continuing the train of thought of the MC's of after repeatedly having his heart broken he would still seek out finding a new love because he wants to love and be loved.
I think you may have misread there. The implication is they will get back together and both move to Sapporo.

Some of these stories are cute and sweet and some rip your heart out. Like the one with an ex being the lover's father...I still wish they would get back together.
Then there is the weird one like the first story.
Overall, it's difficult to judge. I like some and don't like some and then there are ones I love. It's okay.
