I think the problem was back then women had to wear them to tightly and therefore it restricted breathing and movement heavily and they were forced to wear them so they if they didn't want to or they felt uncomfortable or it was to tight they couldn't complain but idk.... I've never tried out a corset nor am I well educated on this time period so yeah.....
Yeah but that’s not true. Back then tight lacing was very rare and very few aristocrats actually practiced tight lacing to the point where they couldn’t breathe. Many workers wore corsets to help their backs and support their breasts. When worn correctly it shouldn’t hurt and is just basically extra support. They weren’t forced either it was really just a piece of underwear meant for women created by women. Everything negative about corsets was created by jealous men who didn’t like the fact that women created something.
Ohh well as I said I'm not very well educated on this era though when I looked it up I thought it said that wearing a corset for too long is bad but maybe thats when their not wearing it properly. Though I think this Manhua might have the sorta theme of women being oppressed and its by peer pressure but idk its also possible that the author didn't know about corsets not being that bad or maybe they read off of unreliable websites or maybe there are countries were it was like this and they decided to put it into their manhua
Maybe also yes! It was only bad to wear for long hours if you were tight lacing or not broken in yet. Like shoes. If you tie shoes to tight after a while it hurts are feet. And if you have new shoes you have yet to break in and wear them for long periods of time you get blisters and sore feet. It was probably because of unreliable sources that they made corsets an enemy in this to lol.
I love this story so much. My only problem with it is the demonizing of corsets. Corsets we’re made by women For women. They are better then bras now bc they not only support your boobs but also help your back. They were very comfortable pieces of garments and it was such a big deal in fashion because it was the first piece of fashion made by women. That is why over time men started demonizing them, because women made them, it was a job they were earning their own keep. They were making a business and that threatened the men so they started demonizing corsets so women stopped making them and wearing them. Then came bras. Which are death contraptions because they don’t support your back and hurt..
