When I saw Mai in the anime, I honestly thought that she's trying to protect Maki by pulling her down, y'know that kind of sibling that choose to be a jerk instead of showing them love. Coz I think if Maki got the spotlight, she will be bullied/pulled down by their family or worse, planned to be killed coz she exceeded their expectation. Esp when the majority of Zen'in family members hate her.
yep!! mai just wanted to play safe and she didn’t understand why maki would go through such lengths just to prove the zenin clan wrong !!! thats why they werent on good terms but ultimately they were both doing what they thought would be the best for each other to survive and live and i freaking love that theyre so precious and didnt even have time to properly reconcile ??? wtf im despaired
