Yeah he was being considerate and sweet. In the context, it was obvious that the random guy kissed someone just to spite his father and that it was not the one fault of the other guy. If I was upperclassman I would be shocked and maybe even a little angry at the other guy who kissed my crush without asking just to prove a point.... But there was nothing romantic nor intimate in that kiss..
