Well..being an Asian, I know why the mother gave him a skirt. There is a old common perception that a gay man is actually a woman trapped in a man's body.
The younger generations could understand the difference between gays and trans apart but not the older generations.
I swear sometimes parents can be so ignorant, but this mom takes the cake. She's supposed to be a child consultant, really? and then she says a parent must understand their child's distress the best. Sorry but my blood was boiling to some volcanic proportions and I ended up screaming and cursing scaring the living shit out of my own parents.
