It's a survival mechanism some victims of kidnapping (or similar situations, abusive relationships can count as well) show, where they develop feelings for and/or an emotional bond with their captor/abuser in hopes of upping their chances of survival. If your captor likes you he is less likely to harm you after all.
The opposite (when the captor develops feelings for their captive) is called Lima Syndrome.
