I'm guessing his mission was related to Quan company's illegal activities and during his mission, he met Lim and they became a couple. But it's not illegal anymore when Quan joined with the military, Ryu Hyun sell out TaeKyung to other countries that's why he got kidnapped
I'm still kinda mad at Ryu Hyun for selling TaeKyung out like that, it could have gone dangerous. Lim's been working with Tae Kyung way before he met Hyun. That's no reason to sell your boyfriend boss just because he overworked your bf (︶︿︶)＝凸
