I think, I read some where that the grapes that they have in Japan has a thicker skin than the ones in Europe/USA. Which is why a lot of people in Japan remove the skin. I don't know if it's true.

Yes, it's true. I didn't know this and I popped one in my mouth and I ended up chewing the skin for what felt like a lifetime. It's really thick and kinda chewy. I don't know if they have thin skin grapes.
