It not that, what he doesn't know is that the alpha is showing all the characteristics of an alpha or something. Sort of like hitting puberty and exhibiting secondary sexual characteristics. It has some kind of significance in this story...

Wait wait wait hol' up...i don't get why the bottom doesn't know the top is an alpha???? He's literally an ALPHA-MATE(?????) And it was oretty obvious that the top used pheromones on that (random perv) guy....+ he was in rut, isn't that the whole point of him(bottom) being there???
