For people saying Poliana is dense, she is NOT ONLY dense, but also basically CLUELESS to romance in itself. She basically survived the world being cold, tough and stubborn. The closest thing to a form of “love” to her, is loyalty and admiration because THIS is how she kept her life and dignity as a soldier withstanding the circumstances of being a “disadvantaged” sex.
The reason why she is friendly with Frau Sneke is because she thinks she only deserves that low of a man. Frau Sneke is weak and powerless. While she might not be the best quality of a woman herself, she has her titles and possessions to beget respect from a companion.
Lucius deserves this LEAST suffering from pining and being in unrequited love. In the first place, he was the one who established that he doesn’t see Poliana as a woman. I dont think it was explicitly shown here in the manhwa but IN THE NOVEL, Lucius did not care if Poliana was to be gang raped first before she was executed when they first met. He also said to Poliana then, that he would rather bed a dirty prostitute than be with her. Poliana never forgot this.
Even with her camaraderie with men soldiers, together with Lucius, she was constantly reminded her of her ugliness, that Lucius was “prettier” than her. Lucius only started calling her “cute” after he realized his feelings.
