Bcuz they both have the same appearance but different personality. Also, Edwin feels some sort of guilt to have a feeling with Ellen bcuz he thought tht it will be incest between them. (Fyi, Ellen is not blood-related with Edwin. So don't worry, there's no incest )
But later there will be a scene where Edwin will kiss Lai. So I thought tht Edwin will be one of the triangle love between Lai and the crown prince.

Seems like the Crown Prince fall in love with Lai instead of Ellen. He deliberately wants Edwin to bring Lai as a substitute of Ellen cuz he's missing.
So basically, the Crown Prince knew all along tht Lai is not Ellen. And when the Crown Prince said to him tht their seggs was not the first time cuz they did it bfore, when Lai in aphrodisiac condition (bfore Lai disguise himself as Ellen). It's complicated tbh but easy to understand
