yeah, a while ago you can see a moment he sees his portret and it seems like he'll get his memories back but it's never really expanded on till now
They were doomed from the beginning, when he makes his final wish cursing his family for generations and the kingdom falls into her peace spell. We know it's going to happen yet seeing the build up to it is tragic.
