Someone already commented the summary of what happened in the novel in another topic. If we disregard the times that ML is being a piece of shit he is, they're quite romantic until he goes in rut early (cuz that where it all comes crashing down). Oh, and MC's omega father plays a big role in making MC's life harder than it should've been.
ML's family has a stigma towards basically anyone that isn't S-class. Therefore, ML divorced MC, commanded him to abort their kid (resulted from the rut), and to remove his mark... all because MC is a B-class omega (and is believed to only give birth to a kid that isn't S-class) and as mentioned by the other spoilers, it's also because of ML's ego. But, ML also doesn't want MC to go far away so he proposes to make MC his mistress instead when he gets engaged to an S-class omega. Yes, you read that right.
MC does agree to divorce and later on remove his mark, but he doesn't abort his kid and moves far away with the help of ML's mom. However, his ties with ML isn't completely severed because he's not resigned to work and is only allowed to take a long leave at work due to an "illness". This is used by the ML later on to trap MC from leaving him.
Que ML longing for MC for a year. Tries to be part of MC's life again but does it using the most unsuccessful way as possible. He only realizes how to properly woo MC after MC threatens him to cut of his (MC's) scent gland if he marks him again (and with his mom's advice too).
You'll hate the ML, but at the same time, you'll understand he acts like this because of his upbringing. His father is a piece of shit and his mom is absent early in life because of postpartum depression cause ML's supposed to have an older sister but his mom was forced by his father to abort it because his sister is a beta. Honestly, I like the drama and how unwavering MC is during the chasing-wife arc. But we all have different tastes.
