I think in this one he does truly love him but I think they both struggle with the concept of love? But I do wish there was some explanation bc bros like two completely different characters between the original and this one T^T I love him a lot more in this one but he seems different from the last and im wondering if maybe the author just switched up his character as they progressed in writing him
oh gosh you made me remember and yes!!! that's one possibility I was thinking of. maybe the author switched up and didn't want to handle the whole rebound thing so they made it simpler hahaha

though they really never addressed that whole debacle about kiyoshi always pestering rintarou to break up with santa like why was he so adamant about that? and why did he cry when he wished them happiness? it's so easy to say "it's because he regretted how young his actions and feelings were back then" but to be honest, I can't get around it...
was kiyoshi projecting? was he uncomfortable seeing some bits of him on rintarou so he didn't want him to be with santa? but why was he so concerned when he has moved on from santa already? also touya saying something like "you'll run to santa when he's free" was heartbreaking and i was shocked the only way they resolved that was by kiyoshi saying "why would i do that? i have you" felt soooo lacking.
idk nothing convinces me that kiyoshi truly loves or at least loved touya. it's like he's the kind of guy who just goes for whoever he likes on impulse - or accepts anyone who comes his way and does his best to express his idea of what a boyfriend is. i understand touya's boss saying that their love was just starting cause I don't think kiyoshi especially loved touya but just accepted him and acted like the boyfriend he envisioned throughout...
agh im overthinking a wholesome BL but kiyoshi's actions and touya's lines from the og manga just stuck to me while reading, i did not get reassured at all.
