Yea easy way she could have just played her role as the “lover” got the info on her ex lover gave it to the duke so the duke could kill him, got paid and went on to live her life somewhere no one knew her but authors always need a villain. Her life probably got turned upside down when her father met her ex lover mother or when she met her ex lover idek cuz it said him and his mother ran away after the count die so I’m kinda confused

And there’s also finding out who hit him with the carriage. It might have been the ex lover or a unknown party but if it’s the ex lover the author is gonna some how make it so that she’s tied into it as well which sucks cuz I feel like she hasn’t done much to the fl she basically did what she was told act as his lover which is why she did all the tea party’s and went out in public with the duke so that the ex lover would contact her she hasn’t like hurt the fl probably just her feeling ig when told the lie about her and the duke going to buy a dress. And then lying about being his lover and berating her when she came to see him when he had amnesia but honestly I feel more sad for her then I do for the fl atm
It’s so fucking annoying how the whole problem is about them constantly misunderstanding on their own and running away. If Jenna hadn’t talked to Lila when she was ab to run away, this plot would have absolutely zero development. Each plot point is held together by a singular fucking string. Also, why do authors live to put the rivals in the worst possible situations ever. Peridot isn’t even a bad person per se. Think about what’s she’s been through, a miscarriage, her lover killing her mother and then losing her father (I think, I skimmed through it) tossed aside by her only hope while being given no food nor heat, and then being hunted by that ex-lover who seemingly is trying to rape her. And honestly, I don’t have any hope for her getting a happy end. The rate at which things are going shes either going to die, end up married to some old man, or be sent to a monastery. All she needs is someone who can help and protect her until she has her shit figured out. When it comes down to the main couple, it’s so generic it’s making me yawn. Lila’s past life has never been touched on, and Aslan has so much potential to become a complex character; they all do, really. However, I do have to admit sometimes a generic plot like this can be refreshing. It’s just the way it’s executed that pisses me off the most
