Yeah that part is not really explained in the manhwa but it's clearer in the novel.

Back then Ash was in love with Nick, but Nick chose Kyle. That was the last time Nick met alone with Ash to reject him, but when Karlyle saw them he got the wrong idea and he was worried that his brother would get hurt. So he scolded Nick right then and there but he literally walked past Ash ignoring him like he wasn't even there, and that left a REALLY bad "first" impression on Ash.

omg i thought that was the case. i thought that either ash was in love with nick or they were rlly good friends that were hanging out and karlyle misunderstood. but ash’s reaction to nick’s pregnancy kinda made me stick to the unrequited love hypothesis. thanks for the response, maybe they’ll go into it in the side stories ~

Yeah there's actually a novel about Kyle and Nick's story, where Ash was the second lead (it was written before DTR, just imagine how strong the second lead syndrome ╥﹏╥). Who knows maybe it will be adapted!
