Obsidian is a volcanic mineral which in no way is brittle, in fact it was used to make sharp and useful weapons
Platinum is literally a metal. It's an element present in d block of the periodic table and is not a gemstone in any shape or form
Pearl is not a perfect gemstone either. It's used in jewellery but is not classified as a gemstone
And amethyst is literally a crystal. It comes from a gorgeous purple crystal formation. Which- is not a gemstone either.
In conclusion neither of them represent true gemstones so being shocked at Obsidian's reveal is pointless
