Does he take a long time to realize that?(don't remember how it went in the novel)

I don't remember clearly but the master first suspected MC identity and I think he confirmed his suspicions with the knife he owned in his past life smth??

Can you spoil to me if his past self is alive and if so, how do they meet/identity reveal? Thanks.
