At first I considered manipulation to always be bad but you can also be manipulative for good reasons as well! Imo, he didn’t seem that manipulative but knows how to get to his goal bluntly.

Side note:
i find ML to be morally grey rather than outright bad
sure the ML is hella manipulative...... but the thing is his manipulation doesn't actually harm MC or other people in general.... in fact, he's trying to manipulate him to live and the people commonly harmed by his manipulations are those antagonistic to him, and his team. Moreover, he manipulate them in a way that they destroy themselves, because of the bad things they did.
