i'd say he's thinking pretty rationally. he's saying that killing someone isn't EASY, he's not saying that killing is a bad/unnecessary thing in this circumstance. killing someone who is alive is different from killing a zombie, bc they are aware of what's happening and will fight back in a way that's more unpredictable. the group that's trying to monopolize all the food has shown that have no remorse when it comes to killing people, so they won't be the ones to hesitate. they also have weapons, which mc's group doesn't have.
