Not really. As a child he saw his mother succumb to her death bc of his father and he was helpless. Now he has someone who looks very much like his mother and he is trying to fill the void and overcome the helplessness of his childhood. The blonde on the other hand is trying to take as much as she can. Their relationship like the old lady said comes with an expiration date but its not the blonde turning 29 but the day the Emperor realizes he has issues that need to be dealt with. This is why unlike others I feel the Emperor still has a chance and is redeemable bc he needs help and none of the people around him have given it to him. The FL is straightforward she can call his bullshit and they can very well be a power couple if she pulls him out of his trauma and gives him a chance to heal.
Yeah no. He's not redeemable. He let thousands of innocent people that were supposed to be under his protection die by being willfully ignorant and neglecting his duties.
In the real world, anyone with a responsibility for people's live that neglect their duties can end up with lifetime imprisonment. This guy deserves worse.
If he wasn't the emperor, then yeah as a person, probably redeemable but even if he becomes a better character, it doesn't change the fact that his country is on the cusp of collapsing.
They have mentioned that their nation has no knowledge of handling gates especially people who have no magic to deal with the gates. The blonde B's brother was the head of the magic division and gate kept what little info they had. More like he only power tripped and never did anything to resolve these. How is the Emperor supposed to know what he doesn't know?
Because he is the emperor. If he can get a wife from another country, then that means he has international connections. He has plenty of opportunities to foster relationships with other empires and gain more information. In fact, he managed to quickly get more info about the MCs role in taking down towers in her country. He is the emperor so he has the ability to not give one department 100% power and control. He could listen to the defense ministers who keep raising protests and others who request for help but no, he neglects it. In that one chapter you can clearly see that he prioritises his personal feelings and emotions over the country. He has no desire to be a good ruler, much less even one that simply fulfills his duties.
Point is, there are so many things that he can do but he just can't be bothered. He is staying willfully ignorant and giving the magic department full reign. He is simply a broken puppet sitting on throne.
As I said, as a person he may be redeemable but as an emperor? No. He needs to be deposed. His older sister or our MC and ML need to take over. I know it's all fictional but I'm a nurse and humanitarian by profession so it pains me to see it even in stories.
The ones who don't have information are the ones that actively deal with them because the people that CAN deal with them withhold that information, that includes the emperor that is fully aware of what the mage corps are doing, made evident when he commented they could wait on dealing with the tower that landed in the freaking imperial palace. He really has absolutely no redeeming quality. And even if he had, he doesn't deserve redemption.
