My guess is that's why they've made the lighter such a key item; starting a fire to destract for a staged seppuku. Its whole purpose being to be the thing that gives him away just feels to in our face to not be a red harring. But also i could just not was them to die * sobs*

It really relies on the author, such big decisions for the ending man. Its either they follow history, ran away together, die and reincarnate and lots of more endings to think of, just wish they could live off a goodending in this manga
So I went and read a little on how Nobunaga and Ranmaru die to get some context and like, I hope that instead of dying in the temple, they instead get sent to the modern day so they can still be together there T-T. I am also wanting this because I think Nobunaga topping Ranmaru's original body would be hot, but anyway.
Press f for Mitsuhide and Yoshiaki for their unrequited loves but they also betray Nobunaga later so like ╮(￣▽￣)╭ Genuinely sad for Oichi though, she and her children have it rough
