    oops as for my opinion you got it the wrong way . As for my understanding what editor san means is that he would go so far as that just to let kaji sensei feel his sincerity and ( real love) in his mind even if he left the editor position because that moment, the topic is about the manager benefits in the envelope ... so it is just an idiomatic expression words beyond the literal meaning...

    I was actually talking about the flow of the chapter...I was all smiles while k-sensei and editor-san were all over each other so the mood sort of dropped a bit when I came upon the "lovers' suicide" thing...but anyways thanks for you're opinion!

    Well, why would Midori suggest an elopement, bring Kaji sensei to his parents house and be so sweet just to commit suicide. Don't read literally the words and look for a meaning in it, it means Midori has come to terms with his feelings of love (which so far had been expressed by their bodies since they have not put it into words), so he rather die than be separate from Kaji that's the conclusion he has come to...
