Idk as a black person who also reads action stories they always draw the gang people as ugly and exaggerating as the bad person snd only draw them hot if they they are the mc I don’t get the point with the bug lips but yeah….
Seeing newest panel with an even more obvious racist caricature just made me feel more vindicated. As a black person, I would prefer for these sorts of stories to just not have us in them if this is how they wanna show us. It’s shameful
That panel that says “is it a gang?!” Felt kind of weirdly racist. Eric is clearly intended as rich white American so the fact that he’s this idealized white guy (“cashman”)makes it worse. Non Japanese poc usually get paid dust, black/african people getting racist caricatures and brown(particularly middle eastern) getting odd bastardized depictions in manga. The artist knows what poc look like. Black people are not even in it and can’t just read it without being seen as criminals.
