I think Pain and Brutal had a thing. I don't think Pain was too into art except as art for art's sake (and a nanny). Ellie was into White (Brutal's daughter) and Shell just unknowingly told his dad the half-breed lives.

BTW, why do all the vampires have names like "Pain" and "Brutal" but not Shell? I mean, it's like he was doomed from birth.

Well considering we don't know who Shell's mother is - that could be part of the reason why he's name is Shell? Maybe he's mother was an abnormal?
