I think when taehoon died there was a power imbalance as the orb needs to be shared and one person was missing.

So, from what the deer said, we at last know what is happening with Hyo-un in the present of the story. He must have completed his orb, but couldn't give his half to Taehyuk, so his been all this years keeping it and now its affecting him physically, just as the other beast warned.
