You prefer Tsubaki at 18+ realize he's gay and falls in love with Yuu that's been by his side since childhood? And then expect Yuu to accept it at that point? He's already having a hard time processing it right now.
Better let him know earlier so he can process it until Tsubaki reaches adulthood.
This current timeline is just more realistic.
And it's more fun reading about the process of Tsubaki growing up and everything that happens during the time. If it helps, see it more as a slice of life story, rather than a BL.

This story is different from all the typical BL's out there, so I just wanna defend it.
As for it looking like Yuu developing feelings for Tsubaki... Idk if he is, and if he is I hope author won't be bringing any of that to light until Tsubakis older.
I admit I enjoy seeing Tsubaki making Yuu flustered, but its simply because Yuu looks so frikkin adorable. (⌒▽⌒)...
