so basically as Desharow already found out the word Agaras means "mate" and the whole entire story is just Desharow finding out that the his grandpa had a deal with the merman he calls Agaras and the one who raised him when he was young was also Agaras.

And as it turns out Agaras is something like the king of Mer-people and Desharow is like his "offspring" that he raised as a young age- only he let Desharow be taken in by humans aka that boat rescue moment when he was a kiddo.

And the reason why Agaras cares about Desharow is because he designated Desharow as his future mate(?) if you get what i mean- but Desharow basically forgot everything about Agaras after being with humans for so long and never responds "properly" to Agaras' mating calls which made him angy and jelly so thats why he keeps coming to Desharow.

Point of the story- Agaras and Desharow are the prime example of a arranged marriage and Desharow is a merman too :3. Oh also Agaras never actually get a proper name to be called by bc everyone is his subordinates and Desharow can only call him Agaras <3 (I hope you understand this mess lol).

let me give more context- so basically due to climate changes, the merfolk can't reproduce traditionally, so to "reproduce" they started getting human mates and giving them a special spore that comes from their body that would change a human into a mermaid. desharow's grandpa was actually the right hand merman of agares who took a human as his mate, but he was able to take human form and betrayed agares or smth. i don't actually remember 100% about everything but i think desharow was given agares' spore when he was at risk of dying as a child?? the spore has some sort of regenerative abilities because becoming a mermaid makes changes to your body. that's why he's already drawn to agares by default and also why agares is possessive over him. hope that made sense

lol yeah idk who he was a spy for but i remember him coming back and fighting agares to get desharow from him and then he gave up and sided with agares again iirc
