I agree and disagree. there are communication here and there and they both learn to be more open with each other. for starters maxi do talk about her insecurities after Riftan catches her father abusing her and Riftan also talks about how he always liked her before she knew him. book 2 starts kinda rough but the current chapters are really adorable and they are both learning to communicate and trust each other.
needless to say, I believe this story is amazing because it's realistic, both these characters have deep scars and they have to overcome their trauma. we see a lot of romantic stories in which the ML completely changes after they fell in love. some people may be looking for that and this book isn't for them. so yes for those who are looking for a 180 character improvement this isn't the right story.

FIRST I love the story DON’T get me wrong
BUT
If you’re hoping for a good communication between them in the future…sadly your not gonna find it.
There’s a kinda of communication in book 2 (maybe in the next 2 years of the manhwa)
BUT it’s not that communication, not the type makes you clap your hands and scream YEAH BABY
It’s just the type that you say ”really? that’s all you two gonna say? Or scream about?”
cause they will solve their problem with sex *I know shocking* and screaming at each other
There wasn’t that good satisfying heart to heart talk
