Tbh the age gap may not be as odd when the truth is revealed? When the FL first met him in this life, she talked about how he’s familiar and how she normally feels that way as it isn’t the first time she’s encountered familiar faces in her past lives. I guess it’s hinted or implied he may be reincarnated as well? Though I don’t think he remembers yet, but maybe he would later- which would add up his age the same as she is.
