They are wolves. Bexan looks like a husky because his mother was a white wolf and his father was a black one. In reality they look pretty different, but that's what the author went with for why he's mistaken as a husky. Pablo says that chihuahuas are actually wolves too. Again, not realistic, but they are wolves in the story. Diesel is just a regular wolf and he looks like one too.
People who turn into DOGS are not werewolves. I havent read this in a long time and that's the one thing that stuck with me. They're shifters. a word exists for them and its not werewolves. I feel like the English translation should have had that distinction. Also is it just me or is it really weird to shift into a domesticated animal. How much dog obedience vs original human personality would that person really have? Can they actually say no, to commands? They do in the story but I feel like its just a little silly when they could have been wolves. Especially since certain dog breeds are really new, just a few hundred years. So what did they shift to before, another older dog breed? I'm over thinking this...
