? wait?? when did it say the mc is suddenly i love? or forgave him? i didn’t read it that way at all. just because the mc doesn’t want to kill someone, doesn’t mean he’s in love with him. unless i missed a panel where the mc stated that he’s developing/has feelings, i think u may be overreacting or just misconstrued something along the way.

there is a lot of scenes between them and nuance in their relationship that’s sadly lost in translation from novel to manhwa. look up profundis on novelupdates if you want to read the novel! yugeon’s way of thinking is interesting and well developed there.
but onto your questions: you have to understand that in this world the characters are used to horrible things happening all around them. yugeon is used to violence. i think the sexual violence to him isn’t any different. it’s all the same to him (he is a VERY strong and tough character! i feel like this gets lost in the manhwa, but he is RESILIENT throughout the entire story). but what yugeon isn’t used to in any capacity are simple joys, kindness, and affection. he’s been his unstable brother’s caretaker since they lost their parents as children and the world fell apart. he’s a guide who’s been forced into the role of a hunter which isn’t normal for this world at all.
and then shinje gives yugeon a compliment. shinje gives him a decadent merengue cookie. he gives him a necklace. he saves him from another hunter who was invading his mind so he couldn’t fight back when that’s all he had to protect himself. he saves him from almuten. he tells yugeon that he’s going to take their first guiding session with sex slow since the others won’t be as gentle. he kisses and touches yugeon affectionately (in the novel this happens often). he takes care of yugeon’s brother. he takes care of yugeon—puts him in a nice room where there’s no mold or rats like he’s used to, gives him clothes that feel better than anything he’s ever owned, feeds him by hand, etc.
this all happens alongside violence. of fighting monsters way worse than he was used to when on level f missions with his brother. alongside the instances where yugeon is forced to guide the others with sex. alongside shinje forcing yugeon to guide him too. alongside mental anguish over his brother’s safety. over guilt from the relief of not having to take care of his brother anymore (who was incredibly unwell, unstable, paranoid, and obsessive). alongside the stress of almuten haunting his dreams. alongside the stress of trying to navigate the conflicting feelings from enjoying the comforts of being given shelter and food and water from the same man who put him in a situation where he has to go through all this violence.
yugeon doesn’t forgive shinje. not once. but his feelings are a mess. he’s conflicted. he hates shinje as much as he depends on him. he has a crush on him and he detests him. he wants shinje to die and he wants to kill him just as much as he wants shinje to be forced to suffer in this twisted world alongside him and to only die when yugeon makes the decision for it to happen himself. and shinje feels similar feelings because of how yugeon has changed him and all of his plans. they are incredibly toxic and they’re in love and they hate each other and they wouldn’t be able to go on past this point without each other.

and i think it’s also important to know that while yugeon doesn’t like having to guide them, he knows it’s what he signed up for. and he rationalizes a lot of what happens to him that way. but then in the last chapter shinje says he doesn’t want what they’re doing to be contractual anymore, doesn’t want it to be guiding, wants it to be sex. and that definitely has an effect on yugeon and his feelings. the novel has a shift in tone from that point wrt yugeon and shinje and i think that shows something changed in the way yugeon views guiding between them as well.
it’s all very twisted. but in the setting and in the high stress and life or death nature of the story… i can understand how yugeon would form this sick kind of codependency and love for shinje, who is in the novel at least the only one to treat him gently outside of and during guiding/sex.
Ok sooooo what they’re in how love now? When? Why? How? Why is the MC suddenly infatuated?
There was nothing in the story explaining nor setting this sudden shift in dynamics…this is frustrating.
It’s hot but also super annoying because to me it destroys the resilient rebellious strength the MC had in the face of so much adversity. Now what?
He got dicked down so everything he’s gone through is forgiven? Weird.
