Well logically, Cliff can have Rize for himself
But he do something opposite
So i think everyone in the main character and the surrounding are brainwashed for the author's sake.

Cliff is basically brain fried due to the author, Killan was the same way but thanks to the MC he is becoming more conscience.
i hadn't thought of it this way! that makes sense.
I mean it's obvious cliff is a real psychopath but are we supposed to think that all the characters are capable of deviating from their origin? and if they do, they do crazy shit like carefully plan yacht murders? i wish we knew just a bit more about the author and the system.
