I think he just take it as an opportunity, seeing that he didn't even want to hear the real reason why she did that.
And I don't think Grace is foolish enough to be scammed by his father who is obviously got no skills.
It seems there's something more to that incident and her father, obviously isn't the mastermind. He even accused Grace is also involved in her mother's "crime."
Though, I'm not sure about that but from what I see here. The father might had inferiority complex with her. But this is just my opinion. I'm not really sure if he has.
