I mean, that's the whole point of Ray doing this. It has nothing to do with hooking up, but to take revenge and reclaim his position against all odds.
Taking a wife is just a political move and having an heir serves as both political and personal (for sake of legacy).
If both men are ruling their own realm, then you can't expect them to ditch everything they built in order to be with the other. They have too much pride.

You're right that the parents might care about the children. But arguing with the what-ifs but their purpose is still the same. Anyway, it doesn't mean they're the worst ppl or anything. Many ppl do that too, it's just sickening to me. Just personal thing.
