I've never been scratched, and the person who tries to put a hickey on me will get whatever it takes to stop them, so I've never had one of those. The thing is, I've been on the sm scene in New York City, and I've visited sm/bd groups like the Eulenspiegel Society of NY, and the Black Rose of Washington DC. There are groups like them all over the country. They promote safe practices and give how-to have-safe-play seminars. I guess I'm an advocate. I don't like shitty dangerous ignorant acts masqerading as passionate sex.

I just want to remind everyone that in real life, injuring your partner with scratches, bites, and hickeys is likely to illicit tears, get you yelled at, or even broken up with. Such injuries hurt like hell. Scratching is not a reflex reaction to ecstatic passion. It's a deliberate assault. Hickeys or "Love Bites" are considered sex injuries, can leave permanent scars, and there are cases where people have died from them. In defense of our mangakas, we've got to remember that scratches, hickeys, etc. are plot devices used as evidence that two people have been intimate. They're symbols of something that's all but impossible to illustrate in pictures, and I have no problem with them in mangas.
