I kinda agree with you. But considering the king's situation where he holds the crown at a young age, the noble faction probably likited his course of action to learn and control things. We can clearly see throughout the story how he is always threatened to make a decision

Continuation: however despite all the threats he received in order for him to be manipulated, he have always placed the best for his kingdom. He is aware of his weakness more than everybody else and he utilized this fact in order to make a decision of asking for help even if it made him look pathetic.
Btw this is how i interpreted his pov but i might be wrong. ( I binged read all the chapter in one sitting, still got no sleep.)
I get what you're saying but what I take issue is that he knew what the problem is long before Roman came to be but he didn't do anything about solidifying his position Idk say building power from external factors. Yes with the nobles limiting his actions his choices can only be counted in one hand but still as King no matter how of a figurehead he might seem to be .. he is still the ultimate authority. He isn't so limited as he can't function with the crown.
I really dislike the king. There's nothing more disappointing than having a very incompetent ruler. If someone asked me to choose between and incapable king or a competent tyrant I'd pretty much choose the latter.
