actually it's not that he's giving pedo vibes, he himself is a victim of incestuose child sexual assault and he's clearly still really affected by it
it's more so that the author laid out that scene in a way to suggest a possible romantic relationship between them which I WISH WITH ALL OF MY HEART DOES NOT HAPPEN AT ALL COST

I feel like, with all the stuff we know about the monk, it could be possible for the little girl to be the one developing feelings. There's nothing wrong in this, as children will once in their lifetime look up to an adult and describe their feelings as a sort of romantic love.
