Ngl I don't think he told him the truth of not loving him. He probably told him that because he didn't want a young Lucas to insist on being with him till the end. He probably wanted to find a quick way to get him to stop caring about his safety, so he gave him a cruel lie in order to discourage him on following. ╥﹏╥
